Air Traffic Situational Awareness and Communications
for Disaster Preparedness/Relief (DPDR) • Incident Command • Wildland Fire • Airborne SAR • Airport FBOs
Introducing the FlightOps ADS-B: a rapidly-deployable Air Traffic Situational Awareness and Communications System-in-a-Box designed to revolutionize disaster relief efforts, Incident Command air operations, wildland firefighting air operations, airborne search and rescue, airport fixed base operator (FBO) operations, and more! By combining cutting-edge technology and seamless functionality, this innovative system empowers aviation disaster relief organizations, like AERObridge, to provide essential airspace situational awareness and communications equipment to local ATC personnel in even the most challenging ATC-Zero environments. FlightOps ADS-B also updates ADSBExchange.com in real time through an Internet connection provided through an included 12VDC-powered Starlink Mini terminal, which is powered by the FlightOps ADS-B. This real-time update to ADSBExchange.com enables the FAA and other interested parties to visualize the airspace when normally-available ADS-B feeders are offline due to the disaster.
At its core, the FlightOps ADS-B integrates a real-time, locally-received, ADS-B overlay on an HDMI screen, capturing data with precision through an ADSBexchange Raspberry Pi 4 and dual-channel ADSBexchange SDR dongles operating at 1090 MHz and 978 MHz. Paired with an Icom A-120 aviation communications transceiver, this setup ensures seamless communication and tracking of aircraft within the airspace.
Powered by a robust 720Wh Portable Power System, the FlightOps ADS-B offers versatility in deployment, with options for solar panel or wind turbine charging, or connection to 120VAC shore power. This flexibility enables rapid setup and operation in any environment, making it indispensable for disaster relief efforts.
In disaster zones such as those following the Haiti Earthquakes and Hurricanes Maria, Dorian, and Ida, AERObridge often encounters airports in ATC Zero conditions. The FlightOps ADS-B provides local Air Traffic Controllers with the tools they need to visualize their airspace and communicate effectively with aircraft. FlightOps ADS-B also enables ICS and Wildland Fire Air Operations Branch personnel, airborne Search and Rescue, and FBO personnel to visualize the local airspace in real time and communicate with those aircraft via an Icom A-120 VHF Air Band transceiver (may be optionally switched-out with agency-specified transceiver).
The FlightOps ADS-B portable, solar-powered Starlink system enables seamless Internet connectivity as well; allowing pilots to file flight plans, clear passengers through eAPIS, and access essential services online. The FlightOps ADS-B Starlink system provides capabilities for Real-time VoIP and RoIP voice communications between staging areas and field crews further enhance operational efficiency and coordination.
To extend the range of its ADS-B receiver and Air Band transceiver, the FlightOps ADS-B is equipped with a 35' carbon fiber mast and tripod, along with a 1/4λ ground plane aviation band antenna and ADSBexchange dual-band ADS-B antenna. These additions extend the system's range, ensuring comprehensive coverage and reliable performance.
FlightOps ADS-B represents a game-changing solution for disaster relief organizations, offering unmatched capabilities in Air Traffic Situational Awareness and Communications deployment. With its advanced features and robust construction, it stands ready to support lifesaving missions and help provide safe and efficient aviation operations in the most challenging circumstances.
